Date

THU 19 JUN 2008 - SUN 6 JUL 2008

From 19 June to 6 July, the National Museum of Singapore, in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute presents the first-ever Singapore retrospective of the Italian master of modern cinema, Michelangelo Antonioni.

One of the world's most celebrated and innovative filmmakers, Antonioni created a body of startlingly beautiful, original and still amazingly resonant works of film art spanning six decades that dealt with spiritual malaise and urban alienation.

The retrospective will showcase sixteen feature films by the Italian master, many of them screened for the first time on the big screen in Singapore, including rarely seen early work like The Vanquished / I Vinti (1952) to groundbreaking classics like The Adventure / L'Avventura (1960), Blowup (1966) and Zabriskie Point (1970). The retrospective will also include programmes of Antonioni's early short films, a roundtable discussion and documentaries about his life and work.

Special Thanks:

Enrica Antonioni, Ministero degli Affari Esteri - Direzione Generale per la Promozione e la Cooperazione Culturale (Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Directorate General for Cultural Promotion and Cooperation), Lorenzo Codelli, Philip Cheah, Ben Slater, Warren Sin, Piero Marsili Libelli, Peter Bowles, Cinecitt Holding, Minerva Pictures Group, Hollywood Classics, Sony Picture Italia, Tamasa Distribution, and Movietime.</note>
