Q! Film Festival yang didirikan oleh beberapa jurnalis independen pada tahun 2002, tahun ini kembali hadir di Surabaya. Festival ini juga diselenggarakan di Bali, Bandung, Jakarta dan Yogyakarta. Misinya adalah mengenalkan film-film alternatif terbaik berskala internasional, mengenalkan masalah seputar kaum gay, transeksual kepada publik dan juga membahas seputar mode, HAM dan AIDS.

Q! Film Festival 2009 mengangkat tema Queerly Asia memutar belasan film di berbagai venue di Surabaya, antara lain bekerjasama dengan Pusat Kebudayaan Prancis (CCCL), GNCC, perpustakaan C2O, Brawn Cafe dan Universitas Surabaya. Sebagai pembuka festival film ini, pada tanggal 13 Oktober pk. 21.00, akan diputar film dokumenter ”Pertaruhan” (At Stake) karya 5 filmmaker (Ucu Agustin, Lucky Kuswandi, Iwan Setiawan, Muhammad Ichsan & Ani Ema Susanti) di Surabaya Town Square XXI (bagi undangan). Mulai hari berikutnya, pemutaran film akan berlangsung di CCCL, GNCC, Brawn Cafe dan C20 dan tidak dipungut biaya. Setiap hari akan diputar 2 film yang berbeda di venue tersebut. Film-film yang diputar berasal dari festival film dari berbagai negara, baik Eropa maupun Asia, seperti Prancis, Amerika, Thailand, Jepang, serta tentunya, film karya anak negeri sendiri.

Tahun ini, Q! Film Festival 2009 hadir dengan program yang lebih padat. Selain pemutaran film, festival akan dimeriahkan dengan sejumlah acara, antara lain :

a) 2 pameran foto, selama berlangsungnya festival. Pameran foto berjudul ”Fetish” karya beberapa seniman akan digelar di Galeri CCCL dan ”ExotiQueer!” karya sejumlah seniman akan dipamerkan di Brawn Café dan C2O.
b) Workshop Komik. Program yang baru digelar tahun ini, mengangkat tema ”Queer Comic”, pada Rabu, 14 Oktober pk. 15.00 di C2O, jl. Dr. Cipto 20.
c) Diskusi santai ‘Q! Lips’ bertema “Seberapa Queer-kah Kamu?” yang membahas topik terhangat seputar queer atau LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Biseksual, Transgender/Transeksual). Diskusi digelar pada Kamis, 15 Oktober, pk. 11.00-13.00 di kampus Universitas Surabaya, dan
d) Pentas tari kontemporer, yang merupakan kerjasama dengan CCCL, menampilkan karya tari asal Prancis, “Deux” bersama compagnie L’Imparfait, dengan penari Véronique Delarché dan Thierry Giannarelli pada Jumat, 16 Oktober, pk. 18.00 di Kebun CCCL Surabaya.

Lebih dari 500 film dan total 75.000 penonton pada tahun-tahun sebelumnya. Q! Film Festival tak terelakkan lagi menjadi festival paling besar untuk genrenya di Asia, dari segi durasi dan pemutaran film dan menciptakan jaringan lintas negara, terutama Eropa.

Acara ini tidak dipungut biaya dan terbuka untuk publik.

Finally, Q! Film Festival Surabaya has entered its third year. We’re very happy and proud that we’ve always had your best attention, here in Surabaya. In our third year of Q! Film Festival, Queerly Asia, we present films which are well-arranged, bringing theme about sexual diversity which always be interesting topic for people of Surabaya. There something special in this third year, which is a Contemporary dance by Véronique Delarché and Thierry Giannarelli “Deux / Two” from France. This will be performed at CCCL Surabaya.

We chose to play film from our own country as the Opening Movie, “Pertaruhan / At Stake” and “Babi Buta Yang Ingin Terbang” as the Closing Movie. XXI Surabaya Town Square (Sutos), CCCL Surabaya (Main Venue), Gaya Nusantara, bRawn Cafe, and C2O are the places that you can attend to watch our Queer-themed films. We hoped that you really pay attention to our film schedule so that you won’t be disappointed because you missed it.

With our fighting spirit and our sacrifices we made without any payback, we tried to give our best for people of Surabaya. Allow us to invite all of you to come and join us to open new spaces that offered harmony living in our beloved Surabaya.

With more than 500 films and 75,000 visitors Q! Film Festival is undeniably the biggest film festival in Asia for its genre. All events are free and open for public.
