Semangat untuk meneliti, menelusuri, blusukan ke pelosok-pelosok kota kita terasa makin banyak bertumbuh.Tentunya ini tak terpisahkan dari perkembangan teknologi (Internet, data sensing, dsb.) dan perubahan lanskap kota. Pertemuan dengan orang-orang dengan semangat yang serupa tak jarang memantik inisiatif-inisiatif kerjasama dan jejaring kolaborasi. Acapkali kolaborasi ini juga berkaitan dengan (keberadaan dan kebutuhan) ruang kerja bersama seperti open studio, makerspace, hackerspace, sanggar, mes, dsb.

Dalam acara ini, kita akan mendengar dan mendiskusikan berbagai contoh, beserta dinamika interaksi dan kolaborasi dalam ruang-ruang tersebut, khususnya untuk proses penelitian urban. Bagaimana dinamika ini dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor dan interaksi dengan lingkungan sekitar, antara lain persiapan dan tatanan ruang, peralatan, dan pembagian kerja. Dan apa yang dapat kita pelajari dan terapkan untuk proses penelitian kita di Surabaya.

Cindy Lin is a researcher dedicated to the study of shared technological and scientific spaces, vernacular technologies and intergenerational knowledge exchanges in the Global South. Her previous ethnographic work involved extensive fieldwork on the politics of DIY maker and hacker culture in Indonesia and the complex flows of scientific and technological information across nation-state boundaries. A receipient of numerous accolades, including Austrian Government Grant for ArtScience Project (2014) and the National Science Foundation travel grant (2015), Cindy has participated in several exhibitions and residencies in Singapore, Indonesia, France, Switzerland and Germany that specialised in Bioart, urban data sensing and critical design. She is currently enrolled as a PhD student at the School of Information, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Andrew Moon is an anthropology Ph.D. student at The New School in NYC. His research focuses on the location of ‘sound’ in matters of political ecology, design and historiography, with a particular interest in narratives that emerge from the Indonesian archipelago. He is also a research member of the Parsons DESIS Lab and the independent NY-based urban research studio Terreform.
