Funding and ownership
C2O is an independent organisation, run by a registered non-profit PERINTIS—an abbreviation for Self/Collectively-powered Learning and Assembling of Information and Technology, though the word “Perintis” itself also means vanguard, seeder, pioneer. PERINTIS safeguards our independence from commercial or political interference, and reinvests revenue into our public facilities and programs, as opposed to into shareholders’ pockets.
Its operating cost is funded by membership subscriptions, book and facility rental fees, venue hire, sales of merchandise and books, in-kind and direct supports from its team and supporters, event tickets.
For its various research and artistic projects, C2O has received a number of awards, grants, and sponsorship from local to international organisations, e.g. Social Enterprise Challenge for Arts, Creative & Tourism Organisations (Diageo-British Council, 2015), the Creative Cities Research (British Council, 2015), Urban Aspirations (Ford Foundation, 2014), and Urban Knowledge Dynamics (Ford Foundation, 2012-2013). We also work with universities in organising conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. However, they do not fund our daily operations.
