Robbie Peters adalah Antropolog dan Direktur, Master of Development Studies, University of Sydney. Minat penelitiannya berkaitan dengan interaksi globalisasi dan kekerasan dalam proses pembangunan ekonomi yang tidak merata di kota-kota di Asia Tenggara. Bukunya, Surabaya, 1945-2010: neighborhood, state and economy in Indonesias city of struggle (NUS Press 2013, nominasi EuroSEAS Humanities Book Prize 2015), merupakan salah s tu hasil dari bertahun-tahun kerja lapangan di kampung perkotaan. Peters juga telah menulis tentang kemunculan ekonomi retail hipermodern di Indonesia sehubungan dengan kebakaran pasar tradisional, pembersihan PKL, dan percantikan jalan-jalan yang melandasinya. Pada sesi ini, Peters akan mempresentasikan isu kekerasan revolusioner di Surabaya pada bulan Agustus – November 1945.

Acara ini akan membahas metode penelitian yang digunakan informasi, komunikasi dan teknologi, dengan merujuk pada penelitian “Landscaping Mobile Social Media and Payments in Indonesia” dan persimpangan antara (1) telpon pintar (smartphones); (2) situs jejaring sosial; dan (3) pembelian dan penjualan online di Indonesia, dan bagaimana persimpangan ini mempengaruhi kebiasaan belanja online dan praktek media sosial di Indonesia saat ini. Tom Boellstorff is Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine. His research interests include contemporary Indonesian society (where he has conducted ethnographic research since 1992) and digital culture. His books, among others, include Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human (2008) and with Bonnie Nardi, Celia Pearce, and T.L. Taylor, Ethnography and Virtual Worlds: a Handbook of Method (2012).

Speaker: Liz Yepsen is a Program Manager for Google Developers Launchpad, based in Switzerland. She’ll share insights from the over 7,000 startups in the program on what drives startup success.
Workshop + Codelab: Stay for a hands-on workshop to refine your idea, develop user personas and get user feedback before you code a thing. Participants with app packages can apply for a space at four Material Design code labs during these dates.
