SPEAKEASY #2
☞ Tuesday, 7 June 2016, 4pm – 6pm
Dark rum & kopi provided, contribute as you like.
Optional tahu tek, sate, nearby munchies afterwards.
By invitation only.
Speakeasy is our experiment in casual, intimate gathering to share knowledge, experiences, tips, and gossips, while also honing our skills in critical thinking, debates, and articulation, in English language. It is a closed-door session, designed to increase openness of discussion, allowing ourselves to discuss matters requiring secrecy and make mistakes. And yes, in a nod to its use during the Prohibition years, it serves some alcoholic beverages.
This time we’ll be discussing these texts:
- The Tyranny of Structurelessness (Jo Freeman, 1970)
- “Why are they winning?” chapter 3 of Inventing the Future: Postcapitalism and a World without Work (Srnicek & Williams, 2015)
- (Optional) Do It Yourself: A Handbook for Changing Our World (Trapese Collective, 2007)
- (Optional) “Juru Damai: Soetomo,” dari Keselarasan & Kejanggalan: Pemikiran-pemikiran Priyayi Nasionalis Jawa Awal Abad XX (Scherer, 1985)
Contribute as you like, and feel free to join us for dinner afterwards in the nearby warung for tahu tek or sate.
